New Roadmap for Global Nature Goals: Yerevan Pathway Adopted at COP17
At the UN biodiversity summit in Yerevan, nearly 200 nations agreed on the 'Yerevan Pathway' to accelerate conservation efforts and address financing gaps ahead of the 2030 goals.
Representatives from nearly 200 countries gathered in Yerevan over a two-week period to review progress on the landmark Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, which aims to protect roughly a third of the world's land and seas by 2030.
Concluding the COP17 talks, delegates recognized that current conservation efforts have been too slow. To accelerate progress ahead of the next summit in Ecuador, leaders agreed on the 'Yerevan Pathway'. The plan involves tackling subsidies harmful to nature, scaling up financial and technical support for developing countries, and strengthening reporting mechanisms.
