Masterpieces by Nadar and Man Ray Highlight Bicentennial Auction
Marking 200 years of French photography, Christie's Paris will auction over 350 historic works from the prestigious Roger Therond Collection.
To commemorate two centuries of French photography—originating with Nicéphore Niépce's pioneering capture of the world's oldest surviving camera photograph—Christie's is presenting a landmark auction series titled 'Roger Therond Collection: A French Passion.' Coinciding with Paris Photo, the world's largest international photography fair, the sales feature more than 350 rare images.
Assembled over five decades by legendary Paris Match editor Roger Therond, the collection spans foundational 19th- and 20th-century French photography, featuring works by luminaries such as Henri Cartier-Bresson, Nadar, and Man Ray. The multi-session event bridges historical heritage with contemporary fine art curation.
