Google's AI Monitization Dilemma: Surging Search Traffic, Slowing Ad Growth

While search queries grow at a 5-year high, Alphabet's search revenue growth slowed to 12% as investors question returns on a planned $200 billion AI infrastructure spend.

Alphabet's latest earnings report highlights a paradoxical challenge for the tech giant: search queries are expanding at their fastest rate in five years, yet revenue growth is cooling. Q3 search revenue growth decelerated to 12% year-over-year down from roughly 17%, while paid clicks growth dropped from 13% to 8%.

This friction has sparked intense scrutiny from investors, especially as Alphabet prepares to sink roughly $200 billion into AI infrastructure this year. Although AI features are successfully boosting user search activity, that engagement is not translating into faster growth for the advertising engine, driving Alphabet shares down roughly 14% since the earnings release.
