Fujifilm Commits Over $63 Million to Quintuple Magnetic Tape Production

To address skyrocketing archival data demands driven by the generative AI boom, Fujifilm is scaling up its magnetic data storage tape manufacturing capacity by five times at its Kanagawa facility.

While flash storage dominates high-speed computing, magnetic tape remains an indispensable pillar for long-term archival data storage. Fujifilm, the world's leading producer of storage tape, has announced a 10 billion yen (approx. $63.367 million) investment at its Kanagawa Factory in Odawara.

The capital infusion aims to bolster a stable supply system for magnetic tape as enterprise and AI-driven data archiving requirements surge. The expansion is designed to support the massive volume of training data and digital assets generated across modern technology sectors.
