Astronauts Complete Final iROSA Solar Array Installation, Boosting ISS Power by 30%
NASA and Canadian Space Agency astronauts wrapped up a multi-year power overhaul on the International Space Station by successfully installing the eighth and final roll-out solar array.
Marking the conclusion of a complex five-year infrastructure campaign, astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS) have successfully completed the station's massive power upgrade. Expedition 75 flight engineers Anil Menon (NASA) and Joshua Kutryk (Canadian Space Agency) performed a meticulous 6-hour and 59-minute spacewalk to install the eighth and final International Space Station Roll-Out Solar Array (iROSA).
Mounted on the starboard backbone truss, the final deployment augments the orbiting laboratory's legacy power channels to yield up to 30% more electricity. This vital energy boost ensures robust power supplies for ongoing scientific experiments and commercial crew operations in low Earth orbit for years to come.
